Dr Mark Wilson
(QLD)
BSc, MBBS, GDSA, ChM, FACSEP
Specialist Sport and Exercise Physician. Pain Medicine Fellow
Mark is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Physician with a focus on interventional pain management, utilising both ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance. Modalities include platelet rich plasma, diagnostic and therapeutic nerve and joint blocks, radiofrequency techniques, and neuromodulation. To complement his Sports Medicine practice, he is currently undertaking Pain Medicine specialist training via a Fellowship through the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM), the first doctor in Australasia to formally undertake this fusion of disciplines. In 2024, Mark worked as the Senior Persistent Pain Medicine Registrar through the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. He has returned to the Metro Pain Group and looks forward to engaging with local referrers and colleagues to improve the quality of life of our patients.
Mark’s clinical focus is the diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and complex pain arising from the upper and lower extremities, and the spine. A large proportion of this work revolves around the active management of arthritis, soft tissue injuries, neuropathic pain, and persistent post-surgical pain. Mark’s treatment philosophy is that procedural interventions should be used judiciously to break pain cycles, along with safe medication use and exercise prescription, to enhance physical and psychological rehabilitation within a multimodal and multidisciplinary paradigm.
Teamwork is important for good outcomes. A career highlight was being awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his role as Team Physician for the Australian Rowing team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Mark has also worked with the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Swimming Team and continues to provide game day consultant medical services for the NRL and Netball Australia.
